I came around the corner to find THIS sitting on my daugther's floor.  So hurried were her efforts to change out of her uniform that she simply melted into the abyss.

Did her sister throw water on her?  Quite possible given her disposition as of late!
(8 year olds here in my house, are tough. )

I called her name only to find out that ...

Disney's Beauty and the Beast Review- MUST SEE!

Heinz hall through April 12th!

Disney’s Beauty and the Beast
Pittsburgh’s Heinz Hall April 3rd- April 12th!

I was already singing the songs and planning my outfit weeks ago in anticipation of this show! I couldn't wait to share this experience with my daughter. This is one of the great love stories that really teaches that it doesn’t matter what is on the outside but what is on the inside that counts!

Am I the only one who gets a little nervous before taking the kids out in public ...

IX-Indoor Amusement Park in Cleveland, OH

Our review for you!

We were kindly invited to the I-X Indoor Amusement Park in Cleveland OH this past weekend.  We loaded up the kiddos and headed out for the two hour drive.

First, 2 hours away is the perfect amount of time to drive with or without a carload of children who sometimes (ALWAYS) fight.  Just when you think you can't take anymore and are ready to hurl yourself out the door-- you're there.  It's perfect for a day trip.  Long story short-- CLEVELAND is totally DO-ABLE.

 Upon pulling up ...

Macaroni Shines: Be A Good Cookie This May

Cookies For Kid's Cancer

When 2-year old Liam Witt was diagnosed with pediatric cancer in 2007, his mother Gretchen was shocked to learn that pediatric cancer is the leading cause of death by disease for kids in the United States. And she was equally shocked to learn just how little money was being spent to fund new, more effective treatments for pediatric cancer - treatments that hold the promise of better survival rates.

Though her son was in the fight of his life, Gretchen knew then that, as his mother, she must do everything in ...

Easter Egg Knocking-- A New Tradition

Beyond The Bunny Series

Click for a fast link to our SUMMER CAMP GUIDE 2012!

Easter morning at the Perry household hosts all kinds of fun festivities--- but most anticipated.

The Annual Family Egg Cracking Contest.

Most children wake up on Easter morning to search for their Easter basket.  Some families pile into their cars to  attend worship services but THIS editor's family wakes up to wonder, WHO WILL WIN THIS YEAR?  Will it be me?

You heard right.

We crack eggs, we make a contest of it and we are downright RUTHLESS ...

Easter Egg Texture Craft

You and your Macaroni Kiddo will have fun decorating these eggs that can be used in frames as Easter decoration or given to the tots in your life for some textured fun.  Either way, this is an easy craft to do with all ages.

Items needed:

Egg Template

Textured items such as feathers, glitter, pom poms, pipe cleaners, buttons, etc.

These faces are so simple to make, you'll be able to make them for the whole family for a fun photo op or for everyone coming to your egg hunt next month! It is also a versatile craft and can be made from whatever you have on hand- foam, felt, or construction paper. Devilish Little Chicks!

If you're looking for the ultimate in DARLING then look no further.

Devilish Little Chicks

To create this Mommy Masterpiece like my sweet sorority sister Erin did for her own little chickies simply:

Hard Boil and Peel A Dozen Eggs

Cut in half once peeled and cooled.

Scoop out the  yolk centers into a bowl.

Set aside the halved shells.
Be careful-- they are delicate!

Mix the yolk centers with your own super secret deviled egg recipe mixers.  ( I love this one.)

Fill the halved eggs with the deviled ...

Egg Dying Tips

Beyond The Bunny Series

Here are a few tips from MK that will help with your egg coloring extravaganza!  Buy eggs ahead of time as it makes it easy peeling. The fresher an egg, the harder it is to peel once you have cooked it. A fresher eggs has a small air cell and the membranes between the shell and egg white are quite snug. As the egg ages, it takes in air through the shell’s and it loses carbon dioxide and water. This process makes the egg less acidic and increases the ...

Egg-Factly!

Beyond The Bunny Series

Just a few egg facts around the holiday that we felt you may enjoy!  -In China, parents might give family members and friends a red-dyed egg to announce the birth of a child. -For Jewish culture a roasted egg on the Passover Seder plate has stood for life and the hope of salvation for many, many centuries -Germans use green eggs as a symbol of mourning on Maundy Thursday, the Thursday before Easter.

-During the Renaissance in Italy, romantic young men tossed empty eggshells filled with perfume or cologne at ...

Natural Easter Egg Dyes

Beyond The Bunny Series

No more fizzy tablets!  No more crazy pouches of coloring!  Yes we are obsessed with doing things the hard way at times, but this year you may want to think about tossing out the store bought kits!  Enjoy a great afternoon of fun while teaching your kids a little bit of a science lesson!  This year say no to uncertain dyes and yes to organic Easter egg coloring! To obtain different colors for your Easter eggs, use the following materials:

Blue

Canned Blueberries

Red Cabbage Leaves (boiled)

Purple Grape Juice ...

Resurrection Eggs

Beyond The Bunny Series

When I taught Sunday School, I came across a really special way to teach the lessons of Easter to the kids.  Resurrection Eggs!  They come in a carton and contain a dozen plastic eggs, all of a different color and each containing a small trinket which symbolizes a part of the Easter story.  There is also a corresponding booklet with Scripture verse.

When the eggs are opened in a specific order, the children discover the wonderful story of Jesus and the Resurrection.

Several weeks before Easter, we would gather the ...

Skype N@ - A Way To Connect This Easter!

Beyond The Bunny Series

Happy Holidays to all of our Macaroni Kid friends celebrating Passover and Easter!  Such a beautiful time to be with family.  Our family is mostly in the Pittsburgh Area but many of my husband's family members are out of state.  This leaves email and the phone as our only means of communications until we are able to coordinate a once a year or so meet up.   While it works for us as adults, my children are just learning to logically grasp the concept of the " telephone." They lose interest ...

Stained Glass Fun

Stained glass is beautiful, we'd all agree, so here is a fun and easy stained glass craft that can be used for any holiday! We used the idea for Easter this year (though I also see some fun Fall and Winter uses as well!) Little ones love the sticky laminate paper and the tactile excercise of placing tissue squares on the sticky paper.  Little Easter bunnies will likely need a steady helping hand for this craft, but the result is totally worth it, as you can see!

"GUM BAND" Easter Egg Dying

Or Rubber Band To All Non PIttsburghers

This is simple for kids or you can get really fancy by dunking the eggs repeatedly to create a cool, striped effect.

First, wrap rubber bands around the egg (gently!) before dunking. I like wrapping a couple of bands around the eggs to create a layered, artful effect.

Dunk the eggs in the colored water bath until desired depth is achieved.

Remove from the bath and let dry for about 15 – 20 minutes.

Remove rubber bands when the eggs are fully dry.
