Christine weighs in...
Most people say that their problem with going to the gym is motivation or life getting in the way.
My problem is caused by one little issue, and her name is Gracie.
Gracie has learned the way to the gym. No really, I swear she could drive me there if I asked her to.
She has learned the site of the parking lot and as soon as I enter Settlers Ridge, she starts to cry. She sees the gym and throws fits. We get into the gym daycare, and she ...

Donate them to St. Judes Ranch for Children!
Each and every year my family receives a ton of Christmas cards from our family and friends, and each year after the holidays are over, they sadly end up in the trash. I always feel so bad throwing them away.
This year I decided to find another option for our beloved cards!! After using my favorite site, Google, I found the perfect fit for us!
St. Judes Ranch for Children.
St. Jude’s Ranch for Children rescues abused, abandoned and neglected children of all races and faiths from the vicious ...

An Interview With Laurie Berkner !
Even with her tour and her upcoming Pittsburgh show on January 29th 2011, at Heinz Hall, Laurie Berkner found the time to chat with MK SW Pittsburgh. We caught up with Laurie this past week in between appointments. First we asked her a few questions about her music. Among many of her accolades, Good Morning America said “If you think the Beatles made a splash in ’63, wait till you see the mayhem caused by this woman.” We asked Laurie about this quote and what she thought about it ...

The Celebration Of Kwanza
After doing a bit more reading on Kwanzaa, I realized that "The Seven Principles of Kwanzaa" are very much in tune with what we are striving to do with Macaroni Kid! If you are not already familiar with the African celebration, below is a brief history to share with your friends and family that can help cultivate an understanding and appreciation of the richness of African American culture! Goal Setting at an early age!
With New Years right around the corner it may be a good opportunity to work on goal setting with your children.
Goal setting is an important skill they can carry with them through out their life! And New Year's Resolutions are a fun way to not only start the discussion, but the process as well. Here are a few you may want to adapt in your home or maybe assist you with thinking of ones on your own!

PBT'S NUTCRACKER
A Review!
Thanks to the Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre my family and I were invited to enjoy a matinee performance of the Nutcracker. I've only seen the Nutcracker performed by the Russian Ballet and while it was indeed beautiful. It was fairly boring. The Pittsburgh Ballet's version is refreshing and bright. Set in the backdrop of old time Pittsburgh the scenery is lovely and the effects are wonderful. My four year old and her little friend Hope sat through almost ALL of the performance without much wiggling at all! We were ...
Therapy in Coloring
How many times a week do you tell your child to sit down and color just so that they will be quiet for a few minutes? The action of coloring calms their busy little mind and forces them to sit still for a moment. Have you ever considered that coloring could have the same effect on you? I recently sat down with the four year old in my life and colored beside her except while she used a Barbie coloring book I created in Therapy in Color: The Ultimate Therapeutic ...

My New Year's Resolutions...
...with Contingencies
Each and every year we all make New Year’s Resolutions.
Do you find it as funny as I that we seem to do this after we all pig out for two months, spend every last dime we have on gifts and have multiple days off of work at a time?
We all make the same resolutions every year. Honestly, I am not creative at all when making my New Year’s Resolutions. Lose weight, save money, learn something new….blah, blah , blah.
So this year I decided to make ...

It also frees schools from the risk of physical injuries and necessity for playground supervision. But, what school administrators fail to realize is that they may be hindering a child's ability to learn successfully.
Many children without "free time," have difficulties in focusing and keeping their attention on task. As adults it is very hard to go about your daily work without taking a break to help your ...
