Warren Wants to Help Heal Japan

By by Gena Morgan, MK Evansville, IN April 18, 2011

How many times have you seen or heard of devistation in another country and thought "I wish I could help."  I admit that I have, but usually don't end up doing anything on my own to help out.  Most of us do the same thing.  Not 7 year old Evansville resident Warren Halbig.  When he heard about the earthquake and tsunami in Japan, he thought about the boys there not having a place to play decided that he wanted to help.

Warren's mother Andrea, is a stay-at-home mom who does children's paintings through her home-based company Snickerdoodle Kids, she and Warren decided on a tshirt fundraiser and they thought it'd be a great way to help out.  They decided on the slogan "Help Heal Japan" and red t-shirts bear the slogan and the Japanese symbols for faith, love, strength and hope.

The fundraiser that started March 28 sold more than 50 shirts in its first day, and as of Friday, April 8, they had sold 285.
Youth through adult shirts are being sold for $10 (plus $4.50 for shipping out of area and $11.25 for 2XL and 3XL sizes) and proceeds go to the American Red Cross-Japan Relief Aid.
The shirts are being sold nationwide online and already have orders coming from places such as Alabama, Mississippi and Florida, Andrea said.
T-shirts sold locally will be distributed at the end of the fundraiser at a yet to be determined location.
The deadline for orders is Sunday April 24. This is the second round of orders.
