GoodBye Twin Hi-Way Drive In

Bringing Back Simple

January 12, 2017
I rode by it this week.  The mess of machines.  Piece by piece tearing down a landmark in the West area.  Twin-Hi Way drive in.  I was sad and silently mourned for the loss of something that was simple.  Something that represented summer.  Something that represented family and a time that seems lost.  Drive-in theaters might be a thing of the past but they are a reminder of an easier time.

When I was a kid, the only way I saw movies was from the back seat of my family's car at the drive-in.

My favorite audience is everybody. I worked in a drive-in theater from the time I was 8 years old until I went to college, and I'm accustomed to everybody can buy a ticket and everybody should be taken into account.

When families spent weekends together, not apart.  Looking at the big screen and giggling at each other rather than at Memes on their phone.

When parents cuddled in the front seat instead of ferrying their children to available filled time slots on the calendar.  Where kiddos horsed around in the back and eventually late at night, fell asleep.    When outings didn't require re-mortgaging the house.

 When simple --- was enough.

Today I remember Twi Hi-Way Drive In and all of the theaters that will some day join it as it rests.

A reminder of simple times that were good.   I hope you will too!
