LIST OF EVENTS AND HAPPENINGS!

Join us for the region's biggest New Year's Eve celebration! Highmark First Night Pittsburgh 2012 includes over 100 artistic events and attractions in nearly 50 venues – live music, dance, theater, comedy, magic, visual art, film, fireworks, hands-on activities for children and adults, and more!

Don’t miss Rusted Rootthe multi-platinum Pittsburgh-based world/rock jam band, on the Highmark Stage starting at 10:45 p.m. followed by The Countdown to Midnight and Future of Pittsburgh Grand Finale!  An earlier fireworks show, the Dollar Bank Children’s Fireworks Display, kicks-off the New Year’s Eve festivities starting at 6:00 p.m.  The First Night Parade, an annual favorite, begins at 8:00 p.m.

Equitable Gas Sing-Off winner announced! 

Equitable Gas and The Pittsburgh Cultural Trust teamed up for the second consecutive year to hold a contest for Southwestern Pennsylvania performers. This year’s winner, Katie Zemaitis (7th grade, Baldwin-Whitehall School District) will be awarded a $500 cash prize and the opportunity to perform atthe Benedum Center during Highmark First Night Pittsburgh 2012!

 

We’re excited to announce some new components to this year’s event:

Penn Avenue Big Screen
The biggest addition in the Cultural District will be the 16’ x 9’ video board on Penn Avenue.  The screen will feature a mobile phone-driven video game experience, Highmark First Night Bonanza! from 6:00 p.m. – 10:45 p.m.  Afterwards, it will broadcast Rusted Root’s performance at the Highmark Stage as well as The Countdown to Midnight and Future of Pittsburgh Grand Finale for all to see.

Resolution Sculpture
Also new this year is the reinstituted annual Resolution Sculpture, designed this year by local artist Wendy Osher.  The sculpture will be completed with the help of individuals’ participation throughout the evening.

Healthy Resolutions with The YMCA of Greater Pittsburgh
Helping everyone to prepare for healthy New Year resolutions, these sessions will include group exercise classes, healthy cooking demonstrations, and much more for the whole family!
