The classic children’s ballet Snow White will be performed at the Andrew Carnegie Music Hall, 300 Beechwood Avenue in Carnegie, on Friday and Saturday, March 22 & 23 at 8 p.m. and Sunday, March 24 at 2 p.m. Sixty children from surrounding communities make up the cast of Snow White, which is presented by the Carnegie Performing Arts Center. Director Monica Ryan choreographs the production, showcasing the talents of her students and other young dancers from neighboring communities. Tickets are available at the door and are $15 for adults, $12 for students and seniors. For information call 412-279-8887 or access the website at www.carnegieperformingartscenter.com.

In the ballet, beautiful Snow White is raised by a stepmother who consults a magical mirror to compare her beauty with others in the land. When Snow White is proclaimed fairer than she, the Queen flies into a rage and banishes her to a dark and gloomy forest. Snow White is left in the forest to die but is befriended by seven dwarfs, who try to protect her from the evil Queen.

Snow White is danced by Emily Durkin of McDonald, who will portray young Snow White, and Gabrielle Prevade of Oakdale, who will dance the role of Snow White at age 16. The part of the evil Queen is danced by Courtney Killmeyer of Pittsburgh, a junior at Brashear High School. Dancing the Bluebird Variation for Snow White's 11th birthday celebration will be Stephanie Hrabar of Pittsburgh. Stephanie is a graduating senior from the Carnegie Performing Arts Center and has just been awarded the John Franklin Goucher full four year scholarship award for dance and academics from Goucher College. Stephanie has danced with the Carnegie Performing Arts Center since she was eight years old; her notable parts have been the Sugar Plum Fairy in The Nutcracker as well as the Snow Queen and Dew Drop.
