20 Ways To NOT EAT Halloween Candy

October 28, 2014

What should you do with all the Halloween candy you're about to have?

I have to admit that last year, we just ended throwing most of it away but THIS year I really wanted to do something  that was either Fun, Helpful, Pretty or Yummy with it!  We would love to hear what you did with your leftover candy!

FUN

* Sorting:  Although this doesn’t sound like a fun job, my 5 year old son LOVED it! We sorted by size, then by shape, then by beginning sound and finally by our favorites!!

*Water Fun:  We decided to see which candy would float and which would sink!  First we made a list of all the candy we wanted to test. We predicted if we thought it would float or sink.  Next, we dumped it in and recorded our results.  He was very confused as to why the Swedish Fish didn’t float!  I’m sure this could be done with older kids too with a deeper understanding of what makes things float or sink but we more just did it for fun!!

*Skittles and M & M’s:  Am I the only person that didn’t know what happened to the letters if these candies were soaked in water??? We talked about what might happened but did NOT guess this!  SPOILER ALERT!

*Painting with Candy:  This fun had to wait for my very creative 6 year old to get home and try!  We used Skittles and coffee filters and even tried some paper towels.  We let them dry and cut them into fun shapes.  So much fun!

*Use it for Math problems, sight words or spelling words.

*Fill a Piñata for the class or family Christmas party.

*Science Experiments… who knew?  We found this great web site with lots of ideas.

I found quite a few in my area!

YUMMY

*I never thought to freeze the chocolate Halloween candy!  So smart! You can eat it right from the freezer or chop it up and put it in milkshakes.

*Trail Mix- Especially perfect if you just want a little bit of sweetness in your mix.

*Put a piece of chocolate in your coffee or hot chocolate. You can have as many varieties as you have different chocolate bars.

*Save it for Christmas and make a hot chocolate bar or popcorn!  This is perfect to have on hand especially if you have surprise guests.  Whip up a quick batch of hot chocolate or microwave some popcorn and put out the candy and let them go crazy!

*Make a candy pizza. Use sugar cookie dough as the dough part, icing for the sauce and all the leftover candy for the toppings!

*Turn it into custom made lollipops!

Pretty

*Save some pretty ones to add to Christmas packages.

*Pick out some of their favorites and make your own advent calendars for Christmas.  This would be way tastier than the stale chocolate that comes in the pre-packaged ones.

*Save it to use for gingerbread houses. I always have to buy more than they have in the packaged ones.

OR YOU CAN ALWAYS JUST EAT IT!
