If you’ve been wondering whether taking a toddler to a Pittsburgh Pirates game is worth it, the answer is an easy yes! We recently brought our 2-year-old to a 12:15 p.m. game at PNC Park, and I was pleasantly surprised by just how family-friendly the experience was.

From the moment we arrived, there was something designed with kids in mind. We picked up the day’s kid giveaway, and even grabbed a First Game Certificate from Guest Services to remember the experience. You can also stop by the Team Store to create your own Topps baseball card!
One of our favorite parts of the day was exploring the Riverwalk. My son loved climbing on the pirate ship, checking out the interactive kids’ areas, and watching everything happening around the stadium. Between innings, he was clapping, dancing, and singing along with the crowd, making it easy for him to stay engaged even when we weren’t watching every pitch.
The Pirates have also thought through the little details that make a big difference for families. There are kid-friendly concession options, a nursing mothers’ room, plenty of space to stretch little legs, and family amenities throughout the ballpark.
If you’re planning your first visit, I highly recommend attending a Family Fun Day, held on select Sunday home games throughout the season. Before the game, Federal Street transforms into a Family Fun Zone with activities for kids of all ages. After the final out, children even have the opportunity to run the bases which is an experience they’ll be talking about long after the game ends.
Families should also sign up to become a Pirates Insider and join the Bucaroos Kids Club to stay up to date on family promotions, giveaways, and themed game days throughout the season.
Whether your little one watches every inning or is simply there for the atmosphere, a Pirates game offers so much more than baseball. Between the activities, entertainment, and unforgettable views of Pittsburgh, it’s a summer outing that’s well worth adding to your family’s bucket list.
