Join us this March and April for It's All About Greer Lankton, a FREE event series leading up to the launch of an online finding aid to celebrate the famed artist
Greer Lankton. Over 15,000 materials, the archive offers an unfiltered view into Lankton’s life, eloquently exploring and questioning the norms of gender and sexuality, iconography, popular culture, consumerism and socially-engaged art.
Beginning on March 18 - Celebrate Greer Lankton and Queer Youth, a night for teens, by teens. The Mattress Factory Teen Art Coorperative are taking over to introduce you to the work of Greer Lankton, help celebrate the Greer Digital Collection Finding Aid launch, and to celebrate the Queer youth of Pittsburgh. A night of art, fun, photobooths, Teen-led tours of Greer Lankton’s installation, music and (of course) free food!
Core to the events will be an online symposium on April 15, Queer Afterlives in Artist Archives, a collaboration with the Department of History of Art and Architecture at the University of Pittsburgh. This symposium will bring together archivists and scholars with artists whose work engages with archives, the histories of Queer art and the identity it can reveal.
The series will culminate in Greer’s Birthday Bash on April 21 - what would have been Greer's 64th birthday. This free community day will mark the official launch of the Greer Lankton Collection Finding Aid. Admission to the Museum is free all day, with events and programming taking place from 3-7 PM.
Pre-registration is required for all events, and spots are filling up quickly, so register ASAP to get the time-slot that works best for you!
