Is 14 Years TOO OLD To BEGIN Dancing?

Broadway Star and Dance Expert Karen Prunzik Answers

March 23, 2017

Dear Karen,

My daughter has been a soccer player all her life. She is now 14 and thinks she is too old to start dancing. Is that true??

Dear Reader,

It is not true! It is never too late to begin dancing. Especially one who has been an athlete for many years. They are already in great physical shape and have an understanding of how their muscles and bodies work.  That is a huge part of being a dancer. The awkward thing for a 14 year old starting out in dance in most schools as a beginner is placing them in beginner classes.  This usually means putting them with students much younger than them and to be honest, no teenager wants to be in a classroom with 8 year olds and who is to blame them. At Broadway Dance Studio, we have classes specifically designed for the the middle and high school student who maybe danced a little when they were babies and quit or suddenly decided to begin perhaps because they want to audition for their school play.  This way they are among their peers and all are basically at the same skill level. The students take ballet, tap, jazz and Musical Theater together and it's amazing how much they learn in just a short time because they are so willing to learn and they are very smart. We encourage everyone to follow their dreams. If you would like to try a class or two just let Macaroni Kid or Broadway Dance know.
You are more than welcome.

Good luck.

Watch Karen Prunzik in action.  She actually teaches many of the classes!

We love working with her studio and all that it offers.  She's never lost her love for dance and exemplifies all that professional dance tutelage should be.

It's a breath of fresh air for a dance studio.
