Tell Us about your business and why you created it.
"I own Shag Hair Salon, LLC in Robinson Township! It's my dream come true!!! I worked at a salon for 10 years, knowing that I always wanted to someday have my own salon! I realized one day that I was working really hard, but it was for someone else.... Why not do it for myself?!?! So my family and I put our heads and hearts together, prayed A LOT, and came up with a plan! My sister was able to help me out with a loan and my family all pitched in! My Uncle Bob, who passed away less than a year after my opening, built my beautiful salon with so much love that you feel it when you walk through the front door and see the plaque and picture in my uncles memory!"

Tell us about your family
"I am a single mom to the most AMAZING little boy, Anthony! He is 6 years old! After my divorce 3 years ago, Anthony and I moved in with my parents, Ron and Lynette! My parents, along with my sisters, Dina and Stacie, are my support system! I am in a relationship with my boyfriend, Rob, who is so supportive and a wonderful role model for me and my son!"

Tell us about your background/ education
"Graduated from Montour High School, South Hills Beauty Academy with Cosmetology License... I was awarded a full scholarship to continue my education and  get my Cosmetology Teaching License!"

What Advice do you have for other moms looking to make it happen at home?  Looking to have it all!?
"Go for it! Don't ever let ANYONE tell you that you can't have what you want! You are stronger than you ever thought you could be!"
What do you love about having your own business?
"EVERYTHING!!! Most importantly that I am teaching my son that women are strong and independent! I knew it was going to work before I opened! I have so much faith in so many things... God, my family, my clients, my staff but most importantly myself! I wasn't going to let anyone or anything stop me from my dream! My clients followed me from the salon I was working at to an interim salon and finally to my salon... Now that's support!"
What challenge(s) did you find most prevalent as a mom running a business?
"Not enough hours in the day!!!! I am very fortunate, my mom watches my son for me while I'm at work! The hours that I work are long and hard, it's very challenging to work 10 to 12 hour days and still find the time for family, but thanks to my wonderful family we make it work!"
Did you ever want to quit, throw in the towel!?  What kept you going?
"No, my faith kept me going! And my drive and work ethic that I learned from my mom and dad!"
Comments from Debby P Editor, Macaroni Kid of Pittsburgh LLC
Mimi Crimone was one of our very first advertisers here at Macaroni Kid but our relationship has been one of mutual inspriation.  When we began Macaroni Kid in 2010- we watched her get her newly opened Shag off the ground as well.  Her business attitude and her life attitude has us laughing at all times and her faith in all that is good-- keeps us on her team cheering for her!  She's an incredible stylist but more importantly an incredible person.  She's a true example of a Mom who's made it.
