Sensory Friendly Easter Egg Hunt in the Mon Valley!

Easter is here and egg hunts can be a bit overwhelming for those who have sensory processing issues. In the Spring of 2024, we finally got the results of our oldest son's ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder) diagnosis. While his stims, quirks, etc are much milder than others, he does struggle a bit with loud noises, bright lights, and overstimulating environments. 

This gave me the idea to put together a Sensory Friendly Easter Egg Hunt. Unlike most other Easter Egg hunts, this will be indoors to give children a sense of comfort in knowing that outdoor elements will not affect their fun and there will not be mass crowds of kids pushing and shoving each other to get the most amount of eggs. In fact, with our sensory-friendly Easter egg hunt, we plan on giving a set amount of eggs per each child to get so it's fair and eliminates competition on who can get the most. 

Inside the eggs will not be sweet treats but rather fun sensory and fidget like toys for the kids to enjoy. Our event will have snacks and drinks to give kids (free to those who registered) and will be dye free and peanut free.

Please note that this is our first year doing this event for our community so we are learning the best way to accomplish a successful event that works for everyone involved. If you have any ideas on how we can make it better or accommodate to your child(ren)'s needs, we'd love to hear it!
