Fingerprint Masterpiece!
Supplies:
Baking Clay
Wax Paper
Skewer
String or magnet or whatever other fancy things you can think of!

This was a project that many of us did when we had newborns but I love a modern take on an old favorite!  There are some fabulous clay products out there and for this project, all you need is any clay that requires baking.  They have these in just about any color imaginable… who knew!!??  Each of my kids chose their favorite color.  The package directions tell you just about all you need to know. Mine called for me to knead it for 2 minutes.  For some reason, the purple clay did not transfer any color onto my hands but after working with the green I looked like Kermit the Frog so beware of getting this on yourself or clothing.  I pinched off a small amount (no exact measure) and rolled it into a ball.

I placed each ball of clay onto a piece of wax paper. Using a fabulous rolling pin I found in the toy box, I gently smoothed the clay making sure no finger prints of MINE were visible.

I used a skewer to make a hole in the top to place my string through and gently pressed each of my kid’s fingerprints into their clay.  PERFECTION!!

I carefully peeled it off of the wax paper and placed it into a glass baking dish into a 275 degree oven for 15 minutes.

Once it was cooled, I put some string through the hole or some string and a key holder if you want a keychain.  I also thought it would be neat to outfit these with a really strong magnet on the back and make it into a magnet for the fridge!!  I noticed at the craft store that they sell a seal to cover the clay but I wasn’t sure if it would make the cute little fingerprint not as visible.  After some research on-line, most folks said it wasn’t necessary but you might want to give it a shot !
