Nothing that is for self improvement...NOTHING. This includes but is not limited to: make up, motivational books, exercise DVDs or equipment of any kind, and NOTHING that can be used by anyone else in the home. Appliances for example...NO NO NO! If it has a plug...you probably took a wrong turn. Take it back! Even if we asked for it a thousand times. Do. Not. Do. It!
Now having said that....let's begin......
Mother’s Day is right around the corner and we have some great ideas for you that are the cutest around and something she will cherish forever!
Mother’s Day Silhouette
Kids have messy faces, mismatched clothes and refuse to look at the camera? Well, this one is for you!!

TIP 1. If doing this for more than 1 child, make sure you take the pictures from about the same distance or one child will look like a GIANT!
Tip 2. Look for a bargain frame where you shop because this one was super cheap and worked perfectly for our purposes!
Tip 3. I used scrapbooking paper for the black silhouettes. This looked a little darker than regular construction paper but whatever you have on hand is fine!
Fun Bookmarks
These bookmarks were so easy to make and fun too! All you have to do is have your kids pose as if they are being carried away by a balloon. This was a natural for my crew because they love making faces! I printed mine on card stock, laminated it and used a hole punch to punch a small hole where they would be “holding” the balloon. I used embroidery thread to make the string but yarn would work well too. This would be great coupled with new book by the Mom’s favorite author.
WARNING: Do not get her any type of self-help or weight loss book… EVER!!!
Washer Necklaces
This was much easier than I thought it would be originally. The full tutorial can be found here. Although the tutorial mentions a couple of different material to use, I had a ton of yarn and my kids found it much easier to use yarn rather than embroidery thread. We also tried one necklace with thicker plastic lacing wire and even that was super cute! There are so many cute color combinations that you can make and even different textures like we began exploring. For Mother’s Day, it would be perfect to use each of the kid’s birthstone colors and make them into one necklace. We even thought it might make a cute bracelet!
Hand Print Terracotta Bird Bath
This was super duper simple that even I (Kim) can do it! I am many things but not a crafter.
This is very versatile and inexpensive. All you need is terracotta pots, a terracotta saucer, white spray paint, paints of any color for the hand prints and then a spray polyurethane to seal it, and glue. That's it!
I made this small one because I wanted a centerpiece for my table outside. I use it to put napkins and silverware and even citronella candles in the evening.
I only have one child but you could use one pot for each child's hand prints if you have more than one. This would be a cure grandmother's gift.
I will let the pictures tell the simple story for me. I did glue the pots together with Krazy Glue.
Tip Alert: I turned the base upside down to glue it in place, so if the glue ran down it would go into the pot and not down my masterpiece.
