BBQ Bonanza!

Nothing says summer and Father’s Day like a big batch of barbeque!  We decided to do a “theme” this Father’s Day and go with “Dad is King of the Grill” and it turned out super cute.

SAUCE:  I am not so good in the kitchen but I am GREAT at mixing ingredients LOL so I found a
simple barbeque sauce recipe that my kids helped me make. Fair warning that there are tons of ingredients but that made it all the more fun for the kids to mix. They aren’t quite old enough to help with the cooking portion of it but they loved pouring and mixing!

BRUSH: This brush was a super simple craft that took no time at all but adds a nice touch to the overall theme. My kids just used acrylic paint and had at it!  Although I was surprised it was hard to find wooden brushes but I did locate some at Wal-mart.
These also dried really quickly so it’s perfect for a last minute gift.

APRON:  For this “King of the Grill” apron, I just used orange and yellow handprints of each of my kids. I found a kid-safe fabric paint so the apron can be washed easily…after all, this is a functioning apron and not to be hung in the closet!  To complete the face, I just used small tubes of fabric paint that is safe to be washed 48 hours after application.  If you have nice handwriting, the lettering on the apron would look great using the same paint as on the face of the lion. HOWEVER, I do NOT have nice handwriting so I bought some iron-on letters at the craft store and simply ironed them on.

TAKE ME OUT TO THE BALLGAME!

My son has just started to throw the baseball around with his Dad and wanted to come up with a special way to commemorate this year.  I took one of the very baseballs they use and a stamp pad and had him put his handprint on the baseball.  (TIP:  I found the stamp pad in the scrapbooking isle of the craft store. The stamp pad that the kids had wasn’t quite dark enough so I opted for a regular one made for real stamping.)   I also wrote the year on the ball so we will always remember it always!

I also love the idea of doing an experience instead of just a gift and the experience of a Pirates game fit perfectly!
Throw in some popcorn and Cracker Jacks and you have a fun time!

DUCT TAPE FRAME:

I saw this on Pinterest and thought it fit in our family perfectly. Such a cute idea and what I love is a child as young as 2 can help with this gift.  All you have to do is tear off strips of duct tape and they can wrap it around the frame. Doesn’t matter if it’s messy or neat because either way is super cute.  I think this would be perfect to sit on Dad’s desk at work!
