September is Intergeneration Month!

By Jennifer Green September 3, 2016
If you ever needed an excuse to dust off the family photo album or have your kids spend a day with the grandparents, then September has got you covered! This month we’re celebrating the generations, so if it’s been a while since your kids have spent quality time with the grandparents (or great-grandparents!), here are some ideas to make your next family gathering even more special:

  • Create a family album. Have the grandparents bring over the snapshots of you as a kid so your own children can see what you looked like at their age and encourage your parents to tell stories about you (yes, even the embarrassing ones because, let’s face it, those are the best ones!).

  • Start a family tree. Grandparents can be a terrific resource of family knowledge so why not start a fun family project that everyone can be involved in! And your tech-savy kids can show the grandparents how to use the Internet for genealogy research!  Get creative with how you present the family tree (Pinterest has a gazillion ideas)!

  • Invite friends and neighbors over and have an intergeneration party! Encourage everyone to bring a few of their favorite songs and have a dance party! It’s a great way for the generations to learn a little more about the other.

  • Have the grandparents establish a special ritual with your kids. Just a few examples: dinner every Sunday night, a weekly trip to the library, or engaging in a craft or hobby together.
