Description

The classic children’s ballet Snow White will be performed at the Andrew Carnegie Music Hall on Saturday, April 29 at 7 p.m. and Sunday, April 30 at 2 p.m. In the ballet, beautiful Snow White is raised by a stepmother who consults a magical mirror to compare her beauty with others in the land. When Snow White is proclaimed fairer than she, the Queen flies into a rage and banishes her to a dark and gloomy forest. Snow White is left in the forest to die but is befriended by seven dwarfs, who try to protect her from the evil Queen. Snow White is danced by both Allison Platt of Carnegie who will portray young Snow White and Anna Wilcox of Scott who will dance the role of Snow White at age 16. The part of the evil Queen will be portrayed by Shelby Self who is a senior at Seton La Salle. Dancing the Bluebird Variation for Snow White's 11th birthday celebration will be Taylor Jak, a graduate of Carnegie Performing Arts Center, as Princess Florine, and Alexis Retcofsky, a graduate of Point Park University playing the part of Bluebird. Both Shelby Self and Anna Wilcox are graduating seniors this year at the Carnegie Performing Arts Center. Anna will be attending Duquesne University as a nursing student while Shelby will be attending La Roche College and plans to major in Elementary Education. Taylor Jak was seen in last year's Nutcracker as Spanish Chocolate and Alexis Retcofsky appeared as the Sugar Plum Fairy. Along with the Bluebird variation will be Russian Dolls who are presented to the young Snow White as well as Carnival Dancers and Jewels. 45 children from surrounding communities make up the cast of Snow White which is presented by the Carnegie Performing Arts Center. Director Monica Ryan choreographs the production which showcases the talents of her students and other young dancers from neighboring communities. Performances of Snow White will be at the historic Andrew Carnegie Music Hall, 300 Beechwood Avenue in Carnegie.
