Fall arrives this month, cue Pumpkin Spice everything! September also means kids are back in school, the evenings are getting shorter, and the days are getting cooler. Macaroni KID Robinson is here to help you find your family fun in Pittsburgh all month long. Here are our top 10 things to do with kids in the Pittsburgh area this September!

1. Get your last few weeks of FREE Summer movies in or head to a Movie in the Park 🎬 (find the full line-up HERE)

2. Enjoy a Taste of the Burgh at this years Soul Food Fest happening at Point State Park.

3. Last year's Renaissance Festival 🗡was cancelled but this year the magic will go on in 2021 through October!

4. Put on your boots and head to the West Alexander Fair for agricultural and live stock exhibits and a whole lotta family fun!

5. Calling all LEGO® lovers! Brick Fest Live is the largest fan-created LEGO® event in North America is reassembling for the first time in 18 months here in Pittsburgh!

6. Experience a taste of Lebanon with authentic food and music at the Pittsburgh Lebanese Festival

7. Spend your Saturday night under the stars with Moon Rocks Saturday Nights 🎶

8. The EQT Washington & Greene Counties' Covered Bridge Festival 🎎 signature event kicks off the Fall festival season! A charming atmosphere surrounds handmade arts and crafts, home style food, re-enactments, demonstrations, children’s activities, and entertainment. With festivities at 10 historic covered bridge locations, this event will be held rain or shine.

9. Join us as we welcome Buddy the T-Rex from the hit PBS KIDS series, Jim Henson's Dinosaur Train 🚂 to the Pennsylvania Trolley Museum for his special weekend. Bring a camera and enjoy this great photo opportunity with Buddy. Ride a beautifully restored antique trolley to see Buddy. Ongoing activities include a PBS Kids outreach table, Carnegie Museum of Natural History education table, children’s games and complimentary refreshments.

10. Meet up with Third Child Consulting for a family-friendly play event for children of all ages. There will be games, food, crafts and more at Pop Up Play Day 2021!

National Cheese Pizza and Pepperoni Pizza Days

Sept. 5 and Sept. 20

What? Two days to celebrate pizza this month? Why not?!? Celebrate National Cheese Pizza Day first, and then a few weeks later mark National Pepperoni Pizza Day. The kids will love you! Order out or grill your pizza to celebrate.

Labor Day

Sept. 6

Labor Day is the day Americans pay tribute to the contributions and achievements of our workers. Plus it's a great day for an end of summer BBQ.

Rosh Hashanah

Sept. 6-8

Rosh Hashanah is the Jewish New Year. This year it begins at sundown Sept. 6. Many families celebrate with large family meals featuring traditional food such as challah and apples dipped in honey, representing the wish for a sweet, happy new year. Try this amazing recipe for Jewish Apple Cake, another popular recipe at Rosh Hashanah celebrations.

National Day of Service and Remembrance 

Sept. 11 

Sept. 11 is a day to reflect on the devastating 2001 attacks that changed our country so much. Remember those we lost and give thanks to the first responders.

National Grandparents Day 

Sept. 12

Grandparents are special. If your children's grandparents are local, spend time showing them just how important they truly are to your family. 

If they aren't local, plan ahead and send a handmade card and a hug: Simply tape together a few pieces of newspaper or use the white side of wrapping paper and outline your child with their arms outstretched. Let your kids color themselves in. Fold it up, put it in an envelope and send that hug to grandma!

Hispanic Heritage Month 

Sept. 15-Oct. 15

One of our former publishers shared this delicious Arroz con Leche recipe for Hispanic Heritage Month that she learned from her mother and grandmothers while growing up in Tepic, Nayarit. Make it this month as one way to celebrate the histories, cultures, and contributions of those whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean, and Central and South America.

Yom Kippur 

Sept. 15-16

Yom Kippur is the “Day of Atonement” during which Jews around the world reflect on their sins from the past year and ask for forgiveness. The focus of the Yom Kippur holiday? Introspection and connecting to your religion. To do that, Jews fast from sundown the night before to sundown the night of Yom Kippur.
