1. National Sports Day
Sports are everywhere you look. You can find them at so many parks in your area, you can also go to any of the arenas and watch professionals. National Sports Day is on October 16th this year, so make sure to grab that ball, the mit, that stick, etc and enjoy the day with some type of sport. If you need some inspiration, check out these sporty events happening over the next two weeks!
- Flag Football is a great sport to play the day before National Sports Day. On October 15th at Kelly Park, join a team to play flag football. Wednesday’s are dedicated to practices and Sunday’s are dedicated to all the games. Get those flags on and run that field for a touchdown.
- Calling all those ghouls and goblins that love to trick-or-treat and basketball; at UPMC Events Center has just what you are looking for. UPMC Events Center is hosting the Moon Halloween Spooktacular & RMU Basketball Madness. Don’t miss Spooktacular time starting at 4:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m and make sure you stop and visit Macaroni KID Robinson for a spooky treat!.
- At Boyce Park, gain the opportunity to try out archery. It is a great exercise, sport, relaxation, competition, and fun challenge to put yourself in. Join in for some lessons and get to use a great compound starter bow that is great for youth, seniors, and all ages in between. Grab that bow and arrow and aim for that bullseye if you dare.
- RAD days at PNC Park is a great way to capture the sports atmosphere. Get an amazing tour to see the 38,000-seat facility and the beautiful city’s skyline. Learn all the history of Pittsburgh Baseball and the city within PNC Park.
2. Goodies Galore
- Kenny’s Trick-or-Treat is just right for your kids who are age 10 and under. September 9th through October 29th on Saturday and Sunday, have your little ghouls and goblins participate in a park-wide scavenger hunt that has the opportunity to win a prize. Grab that map at Trick-or-Treat Headquarters and get a stamp from all nine locations to receive your spooky goodie bag. Be able to kick off the spooky season with a fun day at Kenny’s Trick or Treat Scavenger Hunt and by night experience all the terror if you dare!! Kennywood’s Phantom Fall Feast and Fright Nights are unforgettable and have many attractions to experience, read more about each individual attraction within this Phantom Fall Feast, Fright Night, and Kenny’s Trick or Treat.
- Don’t miss Trunk or Treat at the Mall at Robinson on October 14th at noon.
- Trick or Treat Mini Golf is ready to make all of your favorite spooky dreams come true by getting that HOLE-IN-ONE at Fun Fore All Family Fun Park. Get your putting on while having an experience within Halloween-themed mini golf. $12 for adults and $10 for children 12 and younger. Everyone who participates will receive their trick or treat goodie bag.
3. Haunted Attractions
- Do you have the need for speed and being scared? Three Rivers Karting Entertainment Park is hosting Karts in the Dark. Drive through a haunted wonderland that features areas known as the “graveyard” and the “spider web”. Throw Haunted Hatchets at a bullseye and go into the zombie zone arcade. Karting prices are 1 race for $25, 2 races for $42, 3 races for $55, 4 races for $80, 8 races for $110. Ax Throwing prices are 1 hour $25 per person and 2 hours $40 per person. . Arcade prices are 200 credits for $10, 500 credits for $25, 1000 credits for $50, 1500 credits for $75, and 2000 credits $100.
- Scare at the Fair is one of the area’s best-haunted attractions. 11 years in the making of scaring your pants off of your friends, neighbors, and family members. The West Alexander Scare at the Fair has added 2 new buildings and they have made even more improvements for your enjoyment. Enjoy haunted horse and ghost hunts that have their very own location. This event is recommended that children under the age of 8 do not attend. General adult admission is $18. Ages 18 and under are $12.
- Can you handle the scare? If you think you can take a trip to Carnegie Trail of Terror in Carnegie Park Friday and Saturday’s from 7-10 p.m. $15 for 11 years old and older and $10 for 10 years old and younger.

4. Fall Festivals
- Houston… we have a problem because there are TOO MANY PUMPKINS TO HANDLE AT Houston Pumpkin Festival. Experience over 175 food and craft vendors, music and entertainment, children’s activities, a parade, and contests. Don’t forget that admission is FREE for their three-day weekend of October 13 - October15.
- Pumpkin picking, scenic hayrides, pony rides,chainsaw carvings, play areas with straw and sand piles, and so much are calling my name for the perfect fall day. Fall Festival at Hozak Farms is October 14th starting at 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
- Coraopolis Fall Festival is a great place to take pleasure in Emma Jean’s Relics for food, craft vendors, and family activities. These family activities include pumpkin painting, a magic show, a costume contest, mini-golf, bingo, and a scavenger hunt.
- Love flowers and apples? Pick-Your-Own Flowers and Pick-Your-Own Apples at Triple B Farms. Enjoy an early morning or afternoon in flower fields or those lovely apple groves. Pick through all different varieties of flowers and get a large container for only $25 dollars! Pick a variety of assortment of your favorite apples!
- AutumnFest at Seven Springs is this coming October 7th starting at 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. See the vibrant colors of the world while having some family fun.
5. Tea-Rex Dinosaur Tea Party
Calling all herbal-vores to the best Tea-Rex Dinosaur Tea Party at Robin Hill Park. Join us dinosaurs and paleontologists for this tea party that has been 65 million years in the making. Join us for some…Chai-lophosarus or maybe a cup of Troo-oolong? Enjoy some Chips and Dip-lodocus or another Snack-cephalosaurus. Feel free to dress up as your favorite dinosaur, paleontologist, or in your favorite tea party attire. Make sure that everyone who is attending is registered for this dino-astic event. It is open for ages 5 -12 with an adult.
